Regional Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (French)

 

This IOC paper presents the commitments of member states to develop a common adaptation strategy to climate change for the period 2012-2010.

INTERNATIONAL 

ISLAND Project

 

To contribute to the sustainable development of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the region of Eastern and Southern Africa and Indian Ocean by raising the social, economic, environmental, and a greater regional integration, the IOC established ISLAND project.

The first phase took place from August 2011 to 2013, and the second began in June 2014 for completion in December 2017.

COMESA - Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa 

 

This annual report of 2011, COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) aims to achieve sustainable economic and social progress in member states by strengthening integration and international cooperation.

SADC (Southern Africa Development Community)

 

To improve integration and regional cooperation of the member states, the Treaty of SADC (Southern Africa Development Community) in 1992, was revised in 2008.

Nairobi Convention

 

Adopted at Nairobi on 31 March 2010, the act was implemented by the United Nations Program for the Environment, for the protection, management and marine and coastal development in the region of East Africa. This is an ideal framework for international cooperation activities on the Sea.

United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change 

 

To stabilize emissions of greenhouse gases at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system while maintaining sustainable economic development, the United Nations has developed this framework agreement in 1992.

Kyoto Protocol

 

Created by the United Nations, the Kyoto Protocol was signed December 11, 1997 and entered into effect in 2005 The objective is to engage the signatory countries to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gas  by 5% between 2008 and 2012 based on 1990 emissions.
